Setting a new table

Feb 8, 2011   //   by mlsstt   //   Announcements, Blog  //  6 Comments

Whew, it’s been an interesting off-season.

The MLS:STT engineers with one of the early prototypesAt the end of last season, I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue doing this.  Deadlines at work left me exhausted, and coming down the stretch of the regular season I was making far too many mistakes — and I heard about it from some irritated visitors to MLS:STT.  Maybe they were irritated because a Western Conference team was going to win the East, who knows.

After some thinking (and some craft beers), the guys in the lab got to work moving the site over to a different platform.  They tried some prototypes, but it was only after some trial and error that what you see was determined to be the final product.

The changes:

  • The platform allows me to edit remotely so now when I’ve typed an ‘E’ instead of a ’3′, I can make the change while at the sports bar cursing the production values of FSC’s MLS coverage.
  • The sortable columns are no more…for now.  I may put them back in at some once I work the bugs out.
  • I’ve stopped doing the Google gadget table.  It was just too painful to update.  Sorry to you iGoogle users (are there any still around?) However…
  • NEW! Smartphone users should be automatically directed to a lighter, mobile version of the home page table instead of the full version.  There’s a link to the full site at the bottom of the mobile version.  If you don’t get it automatically, point your phone’s browser to stt.mobify.me

I’ll be tweaking more as we go through the year, so bear with me and let me know via the contact form or Twitter (@settingthetable) if you have any issues — but keep it civil, okay?  The blog will be updated as I think of something relatively profound to blog about; I won’t post for posting’s sake.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy the site and let’s hope for a good MLS season in 2011!
